Education

 

1993-1996: Attended University of Southern California, majoring in musical composition; studied with faculty members Steven Hartke, Donald Crockett and Frank Ticheli.


 

1991-1992: 2 years private study in musical composition with Dr. Erica Muhl, faculty member at the University of Southern California.


 

1991: 1 year private instruction in film scoring with Jack Smalley, professional film and television composer ("Charlie's Angels", "Dynasty", "Murder, She Wrote").


 

1968-1969: 2 years study at North Texas State University in the Jazz Program, saxophone soloist and arranger with the world-famous "One O'clock Lab Band".

Scoring for the PM Entertainment film "Living to Die." Arranging for the HBO film "Baha Oklahoma." Horn arrangements for the album "Try This," by pop diva Pink. Performance by the University of Southern California Symphony Orchestra of his Variations for Orchestra.


Teaching Experience:

 

1976-1977: Private instructor in saxophone, improvisation and arranging at the University of New Orleans. 1978-Present: Freelance private instructor in saxophone, clarinet, flute, improvisation, arranging and Mac music software, at Adam's Music in West Los Angeles, and Charles Music in Glendale.


Misc. Skills

   

Music Copying

 

Using Finale and Sibelius notation software, copying complete scores and parts for any instrumentation, from solo instrument to full-size orchestra. Converting standard MIDI files to scores and parts.


Sequencing

 

Using Digital Performer by Mark of the Unicorn, converting written scores to MIDI sequences.


Transcribing

 

Transcribing recorded music, creating MIDI sequences, scores and/or parts.


Lead Sheets

 

Creating lead sheets from recorded music, complete with melody line, lyrics, chord symbols and guitar fret symbols.


Recording

 

Send me your basic tracks, and I can record saxophone, clarinet and/or flute parts and/or solos, and send them back to you in any audio format: AIFF, WAV, SDII, MP3, etc.
